Let me take you back for a moment.

Years ago, I created my very first website. No fancy plan. No perfect timing. Just a feeling: I need a place to share what I know, what I learn, and what excites me. Fast-forward to now—I’ve built several websites, helped others launch theirs, and yes, I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way too 😅

But that’s the beauty of it: you learn by doing.

And the good news? You can do this too.

Together with Jeroen (my creative partner in crime at Team Copilot), we hosted a session about building your own website and sharing your knowledge online for Rockstars Women in AI and Security. I’ll share the highlights here.. so if you’re ready to start (or restart) your online journey, this one’s for you.

Step 1: Your name is your brand

Start with something simple: your own name.

It’s the easiest way to build your personal brand, and it keeps everything truly you. But.. do your research! We once accidentally picked a name that someone else in the community was already using 🙈 Lesson learned!

✨ Choose a domain name that reflects your audience.

If you’re going international, go for .com. Staying local? .nl works great too.

Step 2: Set it up (yes, it’s easier than you think)

Most hosting providers let you install WordPress in one click. Just hit deploy and you’re halfway there. Want it to look amazing too? We use the Divi theme—a super user-friendly way to make beautiful pages (some people even ask if it’s a Microsoft site 😉).

You can:

Start with a layout you like Reuse it for future blog posts Change only the content, not the structure

✨ Time-saving tip: Create once. Reuse forever.

Step 3: Don’t post every day (unless you enjoy chaos)

When I started, I wanted to blog daily. Yep—daily. Spoiler alert: that didn’t last long 😅

Now I work smarter:

Split long posts into mini-series Turn videos into blogs Use Copilot to interview me while I’m driving (hands-free of course!)

The goal? Keep showing up. Keep sharing. But don’t burn out.

Step 4: Copilot ≠ Copy-Paste

Yes, I love Copilot. But don’t just paste what it gives you.

✨ Add your voice. Your lessons. Your story.

Use AI to:

Do SEO research Find keywords and tags Create structure Spark ideas

But make it yours. That’s where the magic is.

Step 5: Make it visual (and personal)

People connect with people. A blog post with just text? Meh.

A blog post with a photo of you? Much better.

✨ Use:

Canva for header images Mockups to make screenshots shine Personal photos for that human touch

Don’t be shy. Show your face. Be proud of what you’re creating.

💡 Bonus Tips

✅ Use blog titles that start with “How to…” or answer real questions people Google

✅ Let Copilot help you optimize your content (think: SEO, tags, headings)

✅ Start with a strong hook: something that makes people stop scrolling

✅ Add your opinion—what works, what doesn’t, what you’d do differently

✅ Work together with others—it’s more fun, and your reach grows faster

✅ Don’t wait until it’s perfect. Just press publish.
